Here are just some of the highlights from Friday 20th show:
Show me a woman that does not love accessories. They are like toys for grown-ups and inject some fun and glamour to an outfit.
So it is no wonder that I have fallen head over heels for the latest addition to Yves Saint Laurent’s ‘Arty’ range. A gold-plated bracelet with deep blue glass stone is an immediate ice breaker. Combine with this seasons stylish prints and you will be turning heads every which way.
All the hip style-setters descended on Palm Springs for the 2012 Coachella Music Festival this weekend. Amongst the A list listening to Indie bands, hanging by the hotel pool, soaking up the desert sun where the likes of Rihanna made their fashion statements.
All styles were spotted from Boho to hip hop. Hippie dresses teamed with black lace-up boots to the denim on denim trend teamed with baseball cap and wedge style sneakers. Emma Watson and Kate Bosworth showed a wild side by wearing tigerprints. Emma Watson chose a cute dress, while Kate Bosworth went for a tigerprint top teamed with shorts.
Shorts were by far the most popular choice., with them showing up in the form of denim cut offs to cool printed styles teamed with great boots. Also popular was plenty of boho fringing. The supermodels reigned when it came to festival style though. Their long lean shape and festival chic added that extra cool factor.
This weeks fashion trend is the white jean. It has has taken on almost mythical status in terms of fashion etiquette. The American old guard insist white jeans shouldn’t be seen before Memorial Day (the last Monday of May) or after Labor Day (the first Monday in September), but high fashion labels have been promoting the white jean trend for spring which has thankfully filtered down onto the high street.
Try a cropped style with pointy pumps and sandals or a ruched black boot. Teamed with a fitter blazer to guard against the springtime chill.
I had to post this shot of Radio 1s’ presenter Nihal, as it made my day getting a picture with the fellow Sri Lankan. Nihal who was at an anniversary party along with his wife and children was super friendly and happily posed for the above picture to my delight. Though picture would be almost perfect if you could see my vintage Dior bag that I had accessorized with 😉
The A-list set has been championing soft smoky eyes in recent weeks. Forget heavy charcoal, the modern way to wear the look is to go softly softly.
My all time favourite style icon Leigh Lezark, and other fashionistas have all chosen soft washes of dove grey, mink and taupe – perfect alternatives to black and is flattering on everyone. Worthy of note – smoky eyes does’nt just have to be grey or brown, blue smoky eyes look great with brown eyes. If you like your smoky eyes a bit heavier though, go heavy with the kohl pencil but blend out with a brown eyeshadow to give a really soft finish.
Now the weather is warming up guys, it is time to start putting some serious thought into making the official move into your spring/summer wardrobe. Love them or hate them, nothing quite says summer than a pair of shorts. As this is an item of clothing that can be a hit or a miss, here is a few guidelines to go by.
Keep it simple, stick to neutrals leave bright offending colours to the seasoned wearer.
Get the fit right – Not too tight and nothing too baggy. Length should definitely not be too short. The finish should be just above the knee.
Bigger picture – focus on the pieces you will pair them with. They need to compliment not clash.
Confidence – Feeling good in them is key to looking good in them!
Larger than life jewellery has been making a bold comeback and standing out more than ever this year. The launch of the BFC Rock vault brought a host of the hottest jewellery talent to Somerset House here in London and the catwalks have been over flowing with jewels. Anything from tribal nose rings to oversized earrings. Make your jewellery the focus of all by wearing numerous chunky bangles and multiple rings at the same time. Bling is most certainly back.
